This week has marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day – the moment when the cause of climate protection found voice.
While the health and economic devastation that Covid-19 has caused is ongoing and must be our main focus right now, the climate crisis still looms.
Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Greens wrote this week that “
the government must not resort to business as usual to deal with the economic crisis facing the country when we leave lockdown. Instead we must look to rebuild our economy in a fair way which addresses inequality and puts people and planet at the centre of decision making.”
as we live through this time of fear and uncertainty
help us to see the abundance of life all around;
to breathe in unpolluted air;
to listen to the sounds of nature, without the background noise of traffic;
to relearn what we can do without.
May we discover in the waiting and the stillness the whispers of new hope.
